Denzil Coulson is a primary school teacher and a borough councillor. He has been a teacher for the past thirteen years in South Africa and the UK. He has taught both at secondary and primary school level and cares passionately about education issues. He is a campaigner for more teachers and school places so that parents are able to send their children to good quality schools close to where they live. He has been a representative of the National Union of Teachers for eight years.
As a borough councillor, he has led the way in promoting better neighbourhood policing to reduce crime. He is also currently the Shadow Portfolio Holder for Housing and he campaigned strongly against fuel poverty and a better deal for the maintenance and repair of council housing stock.
Denzil cares deeply about economic regeneration of local communities and wants more powers for local councils to invest in their communities to create jobs and restore a sense of pride of place.
He is married to Amanda, whom he met in Taiwan, and he has a son, Joshua. Denzil has travelled widely and is an internationalist who believes that the UK is stronger working together with our European and global partners to fight international crime, terrorism and climate change as well as to promote strong trade benefits for the UK. In this changing world, he believes that the UK cannot afford to be isolationist.
